New 'GO-Bio initial' project (Oct 2026)

PhageONE - Production platform for personalized phage products targeting multidrug-resistant bacterial infections

Multidrug-resistant bacterial infections are becoming an increasing challenge for modern medicine as existing antibiotics lose their effectiveness. Consequently, there is an urgent need for new antibacterial therapies.

Bacteriophages (phages) represent a promising treatment option for bacterial infections. These are natural viruses that infect and eliminate bacteria—including antibiotic-resistant pathogens—with high specificity. However, their widespread clinical application has been limited to date because the production of individual, very small batches for personalized therapeutic approaches entails significant time investment, complex regulatory requirements, and high costs.

The project aims to develop an economically viable production concept for personalized therapeutic phage products. To this end, critical manufacturing steps will be optimized, and an innovative process for establishing and utilizing host and phage banks will be developed.
