Two Co-Workers left for Polarstern trip (Cape Town, South Africa) (Dec 2011)
The cruise starts on 3 December 2011 and ends again in Cape Town on 5 January 2012. The main working stations are located along the route from Cape Town to the German Neumayer Station on the Antarctic self ice. Our Co-workers are interested in the abundance and growth of bacteria of the Roseobacter clade as well as their influence on the dissolved organic matter (DOM).
Bacteria of the Roseobacter clade play a prominent role in the Southern Ocean. The goal of the project is a comprehensive assessment of the Roseobacter clade and its major bacterioplancton subclusters in the Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean. This project is part of a key work package of the Transregional Collaborative Research Center Ecology, Physiology and Molecular Biology of the Roseobacter clade: Towards a Systems Biology Understanding of a Globally Important Clade of Marine Bacteria (TRR 51).
